Plaque
Plaque is the sticky, colourless film of bacteria that constantly forms on our teeth. It starts forming as soon as you get up in the morning by eating, drinking, or breathing. Plaque then combines with the sugars and starches from these foods to form acids that slowly eat away at your tooth enamel.
Plaque also contains a certain type of bacteria called “mutans streptococci” which are capable of turning sugar into glue-like adhesives that hold plaque to teeth. These adhesives cause stains and stickiness on our teeth, making them difficult to clean off even with flossing and brushing.
