Onlay

Onlay

An onlay is an in-office dental procedure used to replace half of a tooth with dentist-prepared porcelain. It is most commonly used for teeth that have broken down due to tooth decay, fracture or wear. An onlay will restore the tooth’s structure and appearance, while it preserves healthy tooth enamel around the damaged area.

Onlays are generally recommended when the dentist determines that less invasive treatment will not be effective enough, or cannot sufficiently improve upon what already exists.
