Crown

Crown

A crown is a type of dental restoration that is used to cover a tooth after it has been broken, decayed or damaged. Crowns can be placed over a tooth with an existing root canal treatment or one with no roots zapped by the dentist’s drill. They replace missing enamel and give your smile more strength and support. After placing a crown, you can continue eating all the normally chewy things in life.

There are several types of crowns, such as gold or ceramic. The type that is used most often for posterior (back) teeth is the porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns; it has a metal base and porcelain coating on the top. Crowns on the front teeth typically consist of all ceramic material and they look like your natural tooth.
