Abscess

Abscess

An abscess, or pus pocket, is a collection of fluid containing bacteria. Abscesses are often caused by injury or infection and can be very painful. Abscesses occur most frequently at body sites where there are many glands to produce the fluid that accumulates in the abscess cavity. These locations include; under the arms ( apocrine gland), in the groin (apocrine gland), between fingers (sweat glands), behind lower lips (buccal mucous membrane ), around teeth or at tooth extraction sites, etc. Abscess treatment usually begins with removing the source of infection so that your immune system does not have to deal with it as well. If you notice any symptoms of an abscess, you should see a dentist as soon as possible. Abscesses that are not treated with antibiotics and removed can lead to severe illness.
