Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dentistry, in the broadest sense, is any dental work performed with the intent of preventing disease or damage to the mouth. Preventive dentistry seeks to avoid the onset of dental issues before they occur. This type of dentistry may also be called prophylactic dentistry, meaning that it is undertaken with the purpose of preserving the health of the mouth, teeth, and gums. Preventive dentistry is often used for patients who are at high risk of damage to the mouth, teeth, or gums. Some common preventive dentistry treatments include teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, fluoride varnish, dental sealant, and dental X-rays.
