Palate

The palate is a roof formed by the upper primarily bony hard palate in vertebrates. Its anterior region, however, consists of only soft tissue – also known as soft palate. The posterior boundary is where the hard palate forms the posterior wall of the maxillary sinus. This boundary includes an area known as parachordal recess or incisive canal which has developmental significance since this area rarely ossifies.
