Maxilla

Maxilla

The maxilla is the bone in your body that contains your upper teeth. The maxilla is really more than just the bone that houses your upper teeth. It also connects to other bones and forms part of your nose, your eye sockets, and parts of your skull.

On either side of the maxilla are processes known as alveolar processes. These hold up our upper teeth. If these were removed, we would essentially have fewer teeth in the upper half of our mouths. Because of this, people with jaw injuries can actually be fitted with false teeth (prosthetic teeth).
