Bridge

Bridge

A bridge is a dental restoration that replaces or strengthens one or more missing teeth. The major difference between a dental implant and a bridge is the supporting crowns (caps) on either side of the fake tooth replacement. Implants are screwed directly into the jawbone, which encourages new bone growth around the implant to secure it right in place.

Bridges replace lost teeth with false teeth supported by neighbouring real ones. If your dentist recommends you get a bridge, he probably wants to fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth (the technical term for this condition is called “edentulism”). Not only does losing teeth create an unsightly appearance, but there are functional issues as well: without its natural pearly white teeth, your smile might appear gummy and off-colour, and you won’t be able to eat or speak as well. Missing teeth can also put a strain on the rest of your jawbone.
